The Heritage Hall kids decided they wanted to throw a Halloween party for all their adopted grandparents, so we had the luncheon on October 28th at noon. Becky, our Community Life Director, set up the room and the tables but the kids did all the decorations and brought all the food for the lunch. The kids chose costumes for their grandparent and coordinated it with their costume. The best costume for a couple has to go to Dr. Dean Robertson and his granddaughter Emma. Dean, who is 100 years old, was a well-known children’s dentist in Oklahoma City and even has a children’s dental clinic named after him at OU. Emma surprised him with a “tooth” costume and she came as the tooth fairy. Anne Glasgow came as a baby and her granddaughter Claire came as a Nanny nurse. Several were cats, witches, mice and butterflies.
The kids ordered all the food and coordinated the meal, serving bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms, French baguettes with a dipping oil, hummus & crackers, plus delicious cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies and other goodies. They also brought sparkling apple cider and bottled water. Most of the food the kids brought was vegan, organic, and gluten free. They are really conscious of their diets which is very impressive for teenagers!
Everyone really had a good time visiting, eating and just really sharing everything in their lives. Some have been together almost a year now so they are discussing daily and weekly details about what is going on at school or at The Fountains at Canterbury. They really do connect and depend on one another. After the meal, everyone watched “Hocus Pocus” and visited some more!
