In preparation for Alzheimer’s month in September and all the festivities surrounding fundraising for the cause, Mary Shrum has been leading the way for several events occurring at The Fountains at Canterbury including the Alzheimer’s Walk in downtown Oklahoma City and our Alzheimer’s Hoe Down here on campus September 7th. Several baskets of gifts were donated by home health agencies, hospices, and various stores and vendors around the city to auction off today during the lunch hour. Hot dogs with chili and cheese, cookies and beverages were enjoyed by many and then they had an opportunity to peruse all the various auction baskets from which to bid.
We have some amazing baskets. The Big Sky Bakery Basket includes lots of breads, brownies, desserts, etc. The Starbucks Basket includes coffee and a gift certificate for donuts every week for one year. Yet another basket is an ice chest filled with picnic items, including two large fold-up chairs which are great for picnics or concerts in the park (lots of fun goodies inside the ice chest too!). There is a Health Basket with healthy shakes, jump rope, and items to help with keeping yourself fit! The Godiva Basket is full of candy, wine and wine glasses plus a gift certificate to Charleston’s. There were many more fun and interesting baskets as well that included gift certificates to restaurants with additional items in each basket, such as wine, wine glasses, adult coloring books and snacks. People are bidding throughout the day and the winners will be announced in the afternoon.
There will be many more opportunities to contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association, with the Fall Mini Mall on Friday, August 25th from 10:00am to 2:00pm…also selling items going to the cause, and The Fountains homemade pizza for sale at lunch.
The Alzheimer’s Hoe Down is on Thursday, September 7th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm out in our Gardens/Inn courtyard featuring Ben McKenzie of Crescent, OK and other local performers throughout the evening. These performers are donating their time for the cause. Sponsors for the Hoe Down will be Synergy Home Care, Alliance Health Midwest, Healthback Home Health, Laura Lynn’s Home Care and Interim Hospice. We will have several booths with vendors from the outside and also representatives of programs we are sponsoring successfully here at The Fountains, such as our Music and Memory program. We will also have a silent auction at the Hoe Down with many more baskets of fun items on which to bid. Food booths and other fun areas are going to be set up for kids and adults!
