Inn and Gardens residents spent the day in Chouteau, OK recently in the Amish country visiting several of the sites there. They had lunch at Fanny’s Country Cookin’ restaurant. All of the dishes are prepared with natural ingredients they raise themselves and then it is served family style. Residents had choices of several meats…ham, oven-fried chicken, roast beef or turkey, plus several sides and yeast rolls the size of a softball! Each person could choose two slices of pie from the wide array of pies offered…pecan, apple, cherry, lemon, blueberry and more, all homemade from scratch! Everyone raved about the food. Following lunch they headed to the Cheese House which is run by the Amish community. It houses all kinds of homemade cheeses and packaged products they make like pretzels, jams & jellies, homemade packaged noodles and more. There are several shops to visit, including a bakery with all their homemade breads, cookies, pies, cakes, etc. You can also go for carriage rides if time allows. It was a full day so we will save that for another time…and everyone definitely wants to return!
