Gardens residents decided they wanted to cook their own Thanksgiving dinner this year prior to the holiday meal we prepare here… just the way they used to do it years ago! Mary Shrum, program director, purchased the turkey and all the trimmings to let them prepare their own feast the way they and their ancestors used to do. Residents made their own dressing and decided to butter and stuff the turkey. They also prepared the traditional mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, and green bean casserole! Family members were invited to the dinner to share with their loved ones. They will also be preparing a Christmas dinner this month and inviting their families to share in the festivities. It certainly brings back memories of the holiday traditions long ago, established by moms and grandmothers who had their favorite recipes to pass down throughout the years.
