Veterans Day Ceremonies

The Fountains at Canterbury has 34 veterans currently, and almost all of our veterans attended the special ceremonies on Saturday, November 11th at The Inn.  Becky Strong, Community Life Director, opened the event by introducing and acknowledging those who contributed to the entire program: Mary Shrum, Khristin Hepner, Trish Pressley, Healthback Home Health, Oklahoma Hospice Care, Synergy Home Care, and the Boy Scouts of America, Pack 349. An opening prayer was delivered by Reverend Darrin Early and he and his daughter Brooklyn sang “Proud to Be An American”. Becky introduced each veteran who stood up and announced the branch of service, years served, and any wars in which they participated. Many had been in the service for more than 20 years. We have veterans who were in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. The Boy Scouts came out and pinned each veteran with flag lapel pins provided by Healthback Home Health, who also contributed all of our table decorations and some of our patriotic wreaths. Oklahoma Hospice Care also donated wreaths that were decorated with flags and fabric of red, white, and blue. All the veterans received wreaths and flags to take home. Becky invited all the Boy Scouts to come out on the floor to introduce themselves and give their ages. The boys were ages 6 to 9 and we appreciate all they did to take the time to participate in our program. Following the presentation, Reverend Early played “Amazing Grace” on the guitar as everyone sang along. Synergy Home Care provided kolaches and juice which they passed out to the veterans and all of our guests. Pictures of our veterans were framed and on display for all to look at after the ceremony. A Veterans Day Church Service was then held in the Town Center Chapel after the presentation to honor all of our veterans here and around the world.
