Resident Jerry Bridge is Enjoying her Permanent Vacation at The Fountains

Life at a retirement community is stress free and fun when you choose the one that’s right for you.

“Go out and look at what’s out there and get a feel for what’s out there. I think it’s the only way you can do it.” – Jerry Bridge, resident of The Fountains at Canterbury

You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Jerry Bridge on Friday, May 22nd, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Jerry’s interest in The Fountains was piqued the first time she visited a resident friend. She lived in Edmond and took fitness classes at The Fountains for two years as a Club member. Finally, she and Tasha moved into their cottage in August of 2014. Now Tasha loves watching the squirrels from her fenced yard and Jerry enjoys exercising in the fitness center, dining and socializing with friends, playing Bridge and attending planned outings to local restaurants and the Lyric Theatre. When something needs fixing, one call takes care of it all. Jerry views her move as a new lease on life without the worries. She said, “It’s a wonderful time to finish your life out with less stress and enjoy as much as you can. And I do.”

To move or not to move? The answer is easier than it seems. Everyone reaches a point, if they live long enough, when everyday chores like planning and preparing meals become a burden. Furthermore, nobody can predict when a health crisis might rear its ugly head. Retirement community living eliminates mundane chores, mitigates risks and replaces them all with fun and friendships. Start researching your options early, like Jerry did, and you’ll be paving a bright future for yourself and your loved ones. “Everybody’s different but I think you just know. I mean I did and everything seemed to work out and when I got here I loved it. And somebody said, ‘How do you like it here?’ And I said, ‘Oh I love it, I feel like I’m on vacation.’ And that is exactly how I felt and I still do.” – Jerry Bridge

Being single made Jerry’s decision to move both easier and harder. On one hand, it was easier because it was her decision alone to make. On the other hand, handling the move seemed daunting. However, when a cottage came available with a yard perfect for her dog, and The Fountains offered to help arrange her entire move, everything just fell into place. “I don’t have to go to the store all the time. I don’t have to worry about what’s for dinner. I just go down there and they wait on you and present you a menu. It’s like a vacation. And you know they come and clean your place, couldn’t ask for anything better.” – Jerry Bridge

Since Jerry had done her homework and planned well, moving in required no adjustment at all. “Worrying about the house was a big thing for me. And I was so glad to get that out of the way, you know what I mean? They have so many activities that it’s fun and there’s always something to do. Everybody’s been so nice and I have met a lot of really nice people. So I’m very happy.” – Jerry Bridge
