When Wanda’s husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she accepted her journey by his side. However, when she finally realized her own health was at risk, she moved with him to The Fountains. There she continued to support him while receiving the support she needed for herself, much of which came in the form of many good friends. That community support helped Wanda transition smoothly into her next chapter. Now that her care
giving journey has ended, she enjoys participating in many programs and events. She remains active in the Alzheimer’s Association and loves to listen to music and attend plays. From her fifth story apartment, she relishes her breathtaking view of the lake and the resident geese.

just wonderful.” – Wanda Bolen

When Wanda was exploring her options, she wanted a place near her children where she could live independently yet see her husband every day, without driving. She found exactly that arrangement at The Fountains, which was very comforting, especially as her husband’s ten-year journey through Alzheimer’s came to an end. “I was already meeting people and it’s a very, very friendly atmosphere here. And I seem to fit right in. That’s how we got here. I have no regrets whatsoever… I am going right on with my life, which you have to do. The disease affects you but you cannot let it dominate you…” – Wanda Bolen

In the eight months that Wanda has lived at The Fountains, she tells people “You know I cannot say that I found anything that I dislike.” “Oh, the activities director here is marvelous and has so many things that we can do, you can take your mind off of anything or be as active as you want to be… I also feel very safe here.” – Wanda Bolen

Wanda’s best advice to others is “Seriously consider it. Visit. I think that you can come and even stay a night or two.”
