Associates, families and residents joined in for our local Alzheimer’s Walk here on our campus on September 9th. The different buildings divided into teams which included residents and associates working together as a group with a name or a theme and costumes optional. The walk started at the Town Center and progressed around the campus picking up various teams in The Gardens, Inn, and Springs to continue walking on around our campus. Teams included ninja turtles, divas, crushers, The Alzy Family and more! The Alzy family shown below, with Mama Alzy (Becky Strong) with one on the way, Daddy Alzy (Eddie Taylor), rebellious teen-age biker daughter (Michelle Kennedy), ornery brother (Verla Raines), little sister (Kellie Stapp), baby in the wagon (resident Anne Glasgow) and grandma and grandpa Alzy (residents Carl and Mary Lou Osburn). It was definitely a morning of fun which residents enjoyed watching if they couldn’t participate.
A snack station was set up with water, granola bars, and bananas donated by local home health agencies. Associates, family members, and residents also participated in the city-wide walk here on campus on Saturday, September 12th. The Fountains at Canterbury was the third largest contributor to the Alzheimer’s Association, donating $9,200, and the only Senior Living Community to raise this large amount through our fundraisers. The week of the walk included bake sales in all buildings with each team auctioning off a basket of fun items. Winners of the basket auction were announced at our walk here on campus. We can all be proud of our contribution this year in helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s!!
